NEW YORK CITY

New York City coined the Big Apple, is regarded as the cultural, financial and media capital of the world—with a huge impact on commerce, art, fashion, research, education and entertainment. It’s the most populous city in the United States. NYC is a very fast paced city—defining the phrase “New York minute”. NYC consist of five boroughs – Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx and Staten Island; each a separate county of New York State.  In 2016, 61 million tourist visited NYC.

HIGHLIGHTS

When one thinks of NYC, the place that comes to mind is Manhattan. This borough is the most popular. Manhattan is the heart of the Big Apple with the iconic Time Square situated here amongst other landmarks.

 

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The best time to visit NYC really depends on the purpose of your visit. Unlike some destinations, NYC does not have a clear peak season. However, between April through June; and September through early November might be an okay time to visit—the weather is mild and pleasant; tourist crowds are not very overwhelming. The least expensive time to visit is weekends during mid-January to end of February.

The temperature ranges in NYC various during the seasons:

Below 50 degrees--Jan.--March and Nov. --Dec.

Around 60-----------Apr.--Oct.

In the 70’s-----------May—June, Sept.

80’s-------------------July—Aug.

ACTIVITIES OR SIGHTS TO SEE

Besides Time Square, there are many other attractions to visit in Manhattan:

​GETTING AROUND

There is way too much traffic in NYC to even think of driving, or to take a cab; unless you do not care about spending lots of time in traffic. The train system is the best form of transportation. However, most New Yorker’s primary mode of transportation is walking.

 

CURRENCY

The official currency used in NYC is the U.S. dollar or the American dollar.

 

LANGUAGE

Since NYC is the premier gateway for legal immigration to the U.S., there are as many as 800 languages spoken in NY, and is considered the most linguistically diverse city in the world; with English being the dominant language.

  1. Don’t be afraid to wonder, as NYC is one of the safest cities in the USA.

  2. Bring comfy walking shoes.

  3. Venture off to other boroughs of NYC to try authentic food.

  4. Purchase city pass to see more of the city—hop on hop off bus tours, quaint neighborhoods, and landmarks.

  5. Move quickly when using public trains; and do not block stairways or sidewalks; or else you’ll get run over.
